The Bub Hub Friday Book Club*
Welcome to Bub Hub Friday Book Club*
We at Bub Hub HQ receive quite a lot of information about books relating to conception, pregnancy and parenting. Sometimes we even receive the actual books themselves – but not often …
In any case we are happy to give them a bit of a free plug because we know that a lot of the time they are relevant to our Bub Hub members.
Here are a few that have come to our attention this week:
Hallmark has brought out two Conversations To Keep books - Mum & Me and Grandma & Me. Basically each page has an open-ended question on it and a record button. So you ask your kid the question and then record their ridiculous (or ridiculously cute) response – presumably so you can bring it out at their 21st and embarrass them in front of their friends and the girl/guy they've been trying to impress all year. Awkward!! In Grandma & Me your child answers questions such as "If Grandma were famous, what would she be famous for?" Just make sure you delete anything along the lines of "being smelly and old" before you proudly hand it over on Mothers' Day.
Aussie author Kate Minehan has created Minkie Mary the Dummy Fairy to help children give up their dummies! This book pack has a cute story to prepare kids for a world without dummies as well as a little pouch to leave their dummy in when they are ready to give it up. As a reward for being big and brave Minkie Mary leaves behind a special toy mouse when she takes the dummy.
Brisbane mother Karly Wegner wrote Then There Was You - An IVF Story to help tell her young son about how he was conceived. Her book is aimed at children who were conceived using IVF and is designed to be read from a young age through to the time they can read it themselves. She said that starting to read the book to your child from early age would help IVF become part of their story.
(* Please note: Bub Hub Friday Book Club might not happen every Friday. It occasionally might happen on days other than Friday. It is possible that it may never happen again.)
